Praia da Luz

Known as a fishing village, its name was taken from the Our Lady of Light church, rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake by locals.

The history of the village dates back to Roman times, and some ruins found evidence thermal activities and facilities related to the salting of fish.

Light is surrounded by palm trees, white sand and rock formations. The village is famous for its nightlife, restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

Light is also known for the amazing Black Rock, surrounded by ideal places for surfing and underwater activities, which is believed to have been formed 150 million years ago, volcanoes in Monchique.
